MOB G.A.E. - MOBILITY AS SOURCE OF PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL GROWTH, AUTONOMY AND EMPLOYABILITY

  • ZAVOD ZA NOVODOBNO IZOBRAŽEVANJE presents Slovenia in this project which is co-funded by the European Commission within the frame of the Lifelong Learning programme, action KA4. In MOB G.A.E. project participated 18 different organisations from 14 countries. The consortium has been set up on the basis of common experiences and needs especially related to the management and mentoring of the international mobility experience.

  • The aim of the project is to value and promote international mobility experience as a tool for learning, for personal and professional development, for enhancing individual autonomy, independence and employability as well as for increasing awareness of European citizenship and civic participation.

To reach its own goal, MOB G.A.E. has defined a multilevel and multi-target dissemination strategy which foresees the following actions:
  • Creation and implementation of the project website www.mobgae.eu
  • Use of social media to spread information about the project and the case stories
  • Creation and implementation of a BLOG to share and spread case stories of people who have participated in a mobility experience
  • Elaboration and dissemination of local and international newsletters on the project and its results
  • Elaboration and spreading the results of the research on the impact of the mobility experiences on personal and professional growth, autonomy, employability and European citizenship
  • Organisation of local events to spread the research results
  • Organisation of a Flash Mob to spread the research results and motivate other people to
    “Move to learn”
  • Organisation of training workshops for pre-departure preparation, to spred the findings of the research

Representatives of ZNI attended all important international meetings of MOB G.A.E. in Florence, Seville and Prague and were continuously supporting all activities of the programme. The main tasks we have completed are:
  • Spreading the results of the research among our partners,
  • Educational module - part of preparation,
  • Organising 4 local meetings for 86 participants from different sectors,
  • Sending our newsletter#1 and newsletter#2 to our partners and as well 3 international newsletters,
  • Published 22 stories from former participants,
  • and recorded our Flash mob video in the centre of Maribor.
Research methodology and data collection

The research question orienting the design of the study, the data collection and analysis is: In what way do mobility experiences impact on personal growth, professional development, and EU citizenship awareness? A mixed methodology has been elaborated and implemented, combining an online questionnaire with interviews and focus groups organised with various stakeholders. With the contribution of all project partners, 2289 valid responses were obtained to the online questionnaire and qualitative data was obtained from 243 individual interviews and 25 focus groups.

Results
A clearly positive impact has been acknowledged by participants on their personal development, on their professional evolution and on their European awareness. The mobility generates to the large majority of participants a more nuanced perspective on cultural diversity, intercultural relations and European affairs. The results also revealed that more needs to be done to increase the awareness among participants of what the mobility has brought to them personally and professionally, as well as for the identification and recognition of personal and social skills (soft skills) and of their impact and importance for professional life.

Over 99% of the participants in the online survey and all the participants in interviews and focus groups declare that they recommend to others to engage in mobility experiences: “It’s a great opportunity, and you're missing out on a life changing experience by not taking it up”; “if you don't do it then you are missing out”; “I think it is a fantastic opportunity”. 95% of participants would be ready to engage in a new mobility experience.
